A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
While novel length, A Court of Frost and Starlight focuses on the immediate aftermath of the war with Hybern and the effects of the trauma that Fear’s sisters, Elain and Nesta, experienced at the hands of Hybern and his accomplices. From their first Solstice celebration (coupled with Feyra’s birthday) to the coping mechanisms of Nesta and Elain’s refusal to acknowledge her mate, Lucian. A Court of Frost and Starlight gives us a glimpse of “After,” the happily ever after, and shows how life continues… both the positive and the negative.
I appreciate how Sarah J. Maas has chosen to extend ACOTAR’s universe beyond the initial story of Feyra and Rhys. Her characters from the previous books have had so much depth that I did not feel like the story was over… even though the war was over, and Feyra and Rhys’s story reached a natural conclusion at the end of A Court of Wings and Ruin. There is still so much more to tell, and A Court of Frost and Starlight is a perfect bridge from one story arch to another.
Another aspect of this novel that I appreciate is how Feyra works through her own trauma and is active in her journey to healing. She hides nothing from Rhys, and he supports her without dictating. They genuinely are a partnership, and she brings healing to so many others through her trauma and recovery.
My heart hurts for Elain and Nesta. I wonder what the future holds for them.
