My first experience with the world of Claire Kingsley was The Mogul and the Muscle: A Bluewater Billionaires Romantic Comedy. Boy, did I go down a rabbit hole.. and love every moment. Claire has an uncanny ability to pull a person, not just into a story, but into her universe, so I was delighted when she announced that she would bring us back to beloved Tilikum and give “those Haven boys” a fighting chance at love.
Obsession Falls begins the Haven Brothers’ era with Josiah, a reserved, non-demonstrative co-founder of a real estate and rental business with his father. He meets our heroine, Audrey, when he enters her new rental, believing she’s a squatter in one of his properties. Let’s say… sparks fly.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Obsession Falls. Josiah and Audrey are the perfect foil for each other. Audrey is sunshine and optimism to his grumpy, cloudy day. It was also delightful to find Claire returning to a trope with a bit of mystery and suspense rather than your typical small-town romance novel. Obsession Falls brings to mind the Bootleg Springs series that she co-authored with Lucy Score, so if you enjoyed Bootleg Springs, then I can highly recommend Obsession Falls.
In my opinion, Claire has often written somewhat spicy sex scenes; however, you may be pleasantly surprised in Obsession Falls that the scenes are more circumspect. This jives perfectly with Josiah’s reserved personality. I wouldn’t have enjoyed this book as much if the sex scenes were as descriptive as I initially expected. Bravo to Claire for keeping her characters in the forefront of how their love unfolds and staying pure to their “voice” rather than following the trend of formulaic sex scenes I’ve noticed recently. You won’t lack for heat. Believe me! There’s plenty of heat!
Come visit Claire’s world, where the squirrels are a protected part of the community, everyone is in everyone’s business, and you will always be welcomed with open arms. Tilikum is a special place, whether this is your first visit… or your romance-loving heart’s home.
